NICKY OPPENHEIMER

A South African businessman and conservationist, Nicky Oppenheimer joined the Anglo-American Corporation in 1968, serving as a director from 1974 until his retirement in 2011, and as Deputy Chairman from 1983 to 2001. Nicky was Chairman of the Diamond Trading Company, Deputy Chairman of De Beers Consolidated Mines and was Chairman of the De Beers Group from 1998 to 2012. Nicky was educated at Harrow School London and the University of Oxford where he studied Politics, Philosophy and Economics.

JONATHAN OPPENHEIMER

Jonathan Oppenheimer is a South African businessman and social impact investor. He began his career at NM Rothschild & Sons, before moving to Anglo American and subsequently De Beers, where he held several senior management roles in Southern Africa and London over two decades. He completed his education at Harrow School London and the University of Oxford where he studied Politics, Philosophy and Economics.

  • The CEO of the South African Future Trust, Nico Jacobs has a passion for entrepreneurship, with business interests spanning the manufacturing, engineering, technology, agriculture, property and craft sectors.

    He gained his BCom at the University of Cape Town, and has previously worked for Standard Bank and Absa, as well as in the FMGC and Telecommunications sectors.

  • Dr Greg Mills has headed the Johannesburg-based Brenthurst Foundation since its inception in 2005. With the Foundation he has directed numerous reform projects with African heads of government, including Rwanda, Mozambique, Eswatini, Malawi, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Ghana, Ethiopia, and Nigeria.

    He sat on the Danish Africa Commission and on the African Development Bank’s high-level panel on fragile states and served four deployments to Afghanistan with the British Army as the adviser to the commander.

    He has worked extensively in Colombia, and with a variety of African governments to improve the conditions for both peacebuilding and investment.

  • Mark Smith is the Head of People for Oppenheimer Generations. He is involved in various aspects of people management for each of the entities of the Oppenheimer Generations Community globally and is a member of the Executive Team. He provides input and advice in all the key elements of human capital management including executive hires, performance consulting and remuneration.

  • Scott Brodsky is a co-founding partner of Oppenheimer Partners. He has extensive legal experience coupled with broad knowledge in both corporate and commercial matters and holds an MA in Law from the University of Cambridge.

    Scott was previously a partner in the commercial department, co-head of the Africa practice and head of the Johannesburg office at Macfarlanes LLP. He has worked with investors, financial institutions, governments, and other parties on transactions across Africa, Asia, the Indian sub-continent, the UK, and throughout Europe.

  • Sandrika Chetty is the Head of Finance for Oppenheimer Generations, the entity that represents the global long-term commercial, philanthropic and family interests of the Nicky and Jonathan Oppenheimer family.

    Sandrika is a Chartered Accountant CA(SA) and part of the Executive Team as well as a Director on a number of boards across the Oppenheimer Generations Group.

  • Edoardo, having relocated to Singapore in 2021, leads the Oppenheimer Generations’ presence in Asia, representing the family’s broader interests as well as managing the Asia portfolio, with a focus on early and growth-stage investments.

    Edoardo previously worked for Barclays Bank in London and New York. He holds a BA in International Studies from Warwick University, an MSc in Foreign Service from Georgetown University, and an Executive MBA at Chicago Booth School of Business.

    Edoardo is part of the teaching faculty for the Wealth Management Institute (WMI).

  • The Head of Philanthropies at Oppenheimer Generations, Ashleigh Fynn Munda graduated from the University of Cape Town with a Masters in Development Economics. She is responsible for the strategic and family philanthropic giving of Nicky and Jonathan Oppenheimer and their families.

  • Alan Henderson is Chief of Staff at Oppenheimer Generations involved in the family’s commercial, not-for-profit and private interests. Prior to joining Oppenheimer Generations, Alan worked for NatWest Markets Investment Bank, holding a number of roles across Strategy, COO and CEO offices in both London and Hong Kong.

    Alan holds a 1st Class Bachelor of Accounting and Finance Honours Degree from the University of Glasgow and a post graduate qualification as a Non-Executive Director.

  • Jacob is a co-founding partner of Oppenheimer Partners which was established in 2016.

    Jacob has over 20 years of investing experience across emerging markets and Africa in particular – preceded by investment banking experience with a global investment bank. Prior to co-founding Oppenheimer Partners, Jacob served as CIO at KTH, leading their transition into a pan-African investment holding company with assets of over $1bn.

    With OP, Jacob has co-led and overseen the investment programme resulting in circa $1bn of investments in Nigeria, Uganda, South Africa and Ghana. Jacob is a Chartered Accountant and a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA).

  • David Lambotte is the Head of Governance and the Jersey Office for Oppenheimer Generations. In this role and as a member of the Executive Committee, he is involved in various aspects of the fiduciary, legal, tax and risk matters pertaining to the Oppenheimer family and their global interests.

    David sits on numerous boards and oversees the management of the various trusts and investment entities which make up the global ownership structure.

  • Dr Duncan MacFadyen has worked as Head of Oppenheimer Generations Research and Conservation since 2002 where he leads efforts to support, fund and partner with national and international researchers to conduct cutting-edge research focused on the natural sciences.

    Duncan was previously the curator of mammalogy at the Ditsong Museum of Natural History in Pretoria. He holds an MSc on small mammals in the northern plains of the Kruger National Park, and a PhD on small mammal ecology in the Bankenveld grasslands.

  • James Teeger is the Chief Investment Officer of Stockdale Street, managing the Global Portfolio.

    Based in Johannesburg, James previously worked at RMB where he was a Management Board Member, before joining E Oppenheimer & Son as Group Managing Director in May 2005. He was a non-executive director of De Beers prior to the family selling its interest in the company in 2012.
